    It may depend upon which state you live in. In New York there is such a think as requesting a “Relief from Disabilities” which would allow you to apply for the proper license to become the substance abuse therapist. You would have to make a petition to the court for a RFD, you would explain what you want it for. If granted then you would have to obtain the proper training. I have seen a lot of former addicts become therapists, and they were good ones. Don’t get discouraged about the process. If you are serious follow through. Remember something someone told me: you only have one life and this is not a rehearsal. Good luck.
