Many colleges offer specific courses in becoming a chemical dependcy counselor…some schools offer it as a concentration
under a social work or psychology major. Just search different colleges for their cirriculum. Just be advised the burn out factor in that feild is very high due to the high relapse rates.

If you are in a major city the councilor service usually has a training program where they will teach you.

There are different ways to go about it. You can get a MSW-Master’s in Social Work with a concentration in alcohol and drug. add. You can also study to be a CASAC or certified alcohol and substance abuse counselor. This program concentrates specifically in this area and requires a field placement as well as course study.
