I Have A Loved One Ready To Get Help With His Addiction.?
I am located in the North East and need advice on an interventionist, a drug rehab and alcohol treatment center. I am not sure where to start. Any help on treating someone with an addiction problem would be appreciated. Thanks!
Well, the most important thing is that your loved one goes first to a clinic that offers medical detox – alcohol is probably the worst substance to detox from, so this person needs to be medically monitored while going through the withdrawal.

You said you live in the North East – here is just 1 place that I know of that has a great medical detox. http://www.stoningtoninstitute.com
You can try googling “medical detox” and your state. You can probably get a list of places to call that way.
Good luck to you & your loved one!!!
Hi there – I know what you are going through, and what your poor loved on is going through. My husband is now a little over 3 years sober. His nightmare, and mine, started to get better when he agreed to go to detox (with some help from the law).
November 28, 2009 4:58 pm | #2I assume that you are in the Northeast of US. I am in NYC, because of convenience of where we live – he went to a detox at Beth Israsel on 17th street. He would not reccommend. He stayed in there for four days, then he went kicking and screaming to an inpatient drug rehab – Mountainside Treatment Center – which is about two hours north of the city. The town is Canaan, in Litchfield county. Like the other post, on this thread, we have great things to say about the treatment and the program up there, I did not know htat they help with interventions (we didnt need).
He stayed up there for a little more than 3 weeks and when he got back he went to work and had to go to an outpatient center center. He wasnt too happy about all that then, but we were all happy with the final results. He got a nice support group and goes back to speak at Mountainside every year, they do annual gatherings, etc.
I cannot point you to a drug interventionist. I can tell you that if your loved one needs to go away, it was good for my husband to get away from the city, his job, and even me (it was good for me too).
their website is htttp://www.mountainside.org – I wish you and your loved one all the strength to get through this! You Will
Hi Mass – I am from Great Barrington and work with counseling – I would be happy to share with you or loved one. If your loved one is unwilling to adress, then a skilled interventionist can be helpful.
November 28, 2009 5:49 pm | #3Sometimes the interventionist will have a stable of treatment centers that they work with – and will seek to determine a best fit for the individual. If you contact me offline, via email, I will send you the number to two interventionists.
Two of the posts mention the inpatient drug rehabilitation center Mountainside – it is a great center and close to here ( about 15 mins south). Here is the site listed again http://www.mountainside.org.
Depending where you are in Mass – if you want something closer there are many options. Perhaps we can discuss offline.
All the best
I have just gone through the same issue with my SO. Total nightmare finding a place and running the efforts on my own. I dont know how old your loved one, but there is a great treatment center in Connecticut (i think Canan) – called Mountainside. We found them through a friend that went through there. They totally coordinated the intervention and detox and now she is getting treatment. They have a 1 -800- 572-5433 and the website is http://www.mountainside.org.
