What are the requirements to be an adolescent therapist?

09 May

Im only in the 10th grade but I was wondering what level of college education is required and how many years of which courses you have to take in order to be an adolescent therapist. Also are there any electives in high school that would be good to prepare me for it. Please give as many details as possible because I am very interested in seeking that type of career. Thanks

Will a male adolescent who sexual abused a younger boy go on to abuse others?

19 Apr

The older boy was 17 years old and he molested me when I was 12, what are the odds that he will go on to abuse others? He seems like he has changed in a few aspects and he is married now (at 23). The abuse only lasted a few months and he denies it and says I am crazy. I have tried to talk to him in a civil manner about what happened but he seems to be in more denial than me.

How do I get through to an adolescent that weed is terrible when they continue to smoke it?

10 Apr

I know someone who continues to smoke weed even after talking to her and educating her about the consequences. Obviously, it’s illegal, but I’m worried more about her future. I don’t want this to become a huge addiction and jump start usage of other drugs. Please help!!

Adolescent eating disorder therapy… what to expect?

05 Apr

I’m 16 and going to my first therapy session for bulimia in a few days. I hate going into things unprepared… what will most likely happen? What will the therapist ask/what will I be expected to say? Is therapy as horrible as a lot of my friends make it out to be (in other words, pretty freaking bad)? Thanks.

Ten graduates of the Alberta Adolescent Recovery Center (AARC) in Calgary, Alberta, Canada were interviewed. The most common symptoms reported by participants were depression and anxiety. The participants described how symptoms were impacted at significant milestones in treatment such as returning to their family home or returning to school. They also described what was helpful about the nature of their treatment plans and what was most difficult for them.
