My father is an alcoholic…plane and simple. I have done EVERYTHING since I was 7 years old to try to get him to stop drinking. NOTHING WORKS. I’m just so sick of it that I don’t know what to do because its ruining my life. I dream about this just about every night and most night I dream that I’m fighting him. Does anyone have any ideas.

My husband and I disagree about how much is ‘too much’ alcohol. We are going to a substance abuse conselor this week, but I’m wondering if anyone has any advice. Anything that helps you know when to stop drinking. My motto has been when you are feeling good, having a great time, thats when you back off and start sipping. My husband tends to just keep going and going…(hence seeing a therapist).

Would it work?
This year I lost my parents, through illness, and a car accident.
I have gained four stone in weight coming to terms with all this, and a trip to my GP yesterday diagnosed me with depression and put me on antidepressants which I cant even take because I drink too much.
Would seeing a counsellor help me with this addiction
Tried AA, not for me, Im thinking along the lines of even hypnosis now, help please…

I would like to know how alcohol addiction compares to other drugs? I don’t drink or do drugs, but I am writing this report and need to know as much as I can.
First of all, do you guys think alcohol is addicting (I wouldn’t know because I never tried and never will)?
Second, how addicting is it compared to drugs like cocaine, meth, heroin, amephetamines, ecstacy, and marijuana?

Okay, I’m a 21 year old female who at night feels like I need to drink or I feel empty/lost in my thoughts/depressed… usually drink equivalent to 4 schmirnoff and a glass of vodka and pepsi a night about 4 times a week…. or drink till my body’s just had enough. I don’t feel I’m physically addicted, but how long does it usually take to have physical withdrawal?

Like excessive. We’re talking like multiple bottles of southern comfort a day. The parent hasn’t been to work because of this. And in and out of rehab for it?

Can alcohol advertisement in sport broadcasting somehow make people addicted to alcoholism and Hooliganism? Things like Tiger beer or Heineken’s ads in Barclay’s Premier League. Do those things have the same mechanism of persuading young people who watch football match in TV to get addicted to alcohol?
I am an alcohol addict and I know this affects my physical and emotional aspects. How can we prevent this?
