I’ve definitely seen a change in his personality. He is ADD, a bit narcissistic and constantly craves to be the center of attention. Now those traits have gotten a lot worse to the point where I can’t stand hanging out with him anymore. I miss my friend the way he used to be… can anyone relate to this?

She has through detox and rehab twice and hasnt gotten better. She is still very much addicted and supoosed to be going into another detox/rehab. She has been supposed to go nor for 2 weeks but everyday comes up with new excuse or chickens out. I have been supportive or encouraging but now its getting hard for me to be that way cause it hard for me to believe that she is actually going to go. She gets mad when I try to give her “tough love”. She gets mad that my parents and I never went to some type of counseling to learn about her problem. She says that since I have never been addicted I dont know what its like. I understand that, but it doesnt take a rocket scientist to know that its going to be pure hell to go through detox and rehab and stay clean. I just dont know what to do or say to her anymore. Has anyone been in this situation? What should I say or do? She is 34 and Im 26

Here are the ones I have read the most often in no particular order.

    1. He abused drugs because like many addicts he just loved to be ‘high’.

    2. He abused drugs to help him cope with the overwhelming guilt associated with sexually abusing children.

    3.Occasional headaches.

    What are some of the reasons that you have read about? And why couldn’t he just go to rehab to clean himself up? Serious answers only.

This persons life has done a complete 180. Bankruptcy, money issues, health problems, weight loss, family/personal issues have developed. I no longer live in my home state, but am visiting soon. I want to help my family member and inform my family of the best way for them to help this person. At the moment, none of them seems to be doing anything and they are ignoring the problem. This person has claimed they are doing outpatient rehab, taking methadone to overcome the pill addiction. Methadone is a pill too and seems like a weird choice for a pill addict to use for recovery.Has anyone overcame painkiller addiction? Or has anyone went through this with a family member? I just want to know how to approach the addict and my family in the most helpful way possible. Any help or advice is very much appreciated.

    Anyway we got back together and my mum told me i couldn’t see him she would throw me out the house if i did.. anyway i felt so low i actually ended up takng crack and heroin with him (my own choice) my mum now knows about my drug use as i accidently injected and OD. I still smoke it (i am also getting help and getting subutex to get off it)

    In the mean time my mum has thrown me out the house, i’ve had to go and move in with my dad (he doesn’t want me there he asked my mum to take me back, she won’t) he is never there always working or out drinking. I feel so alone, my mum is also on about banning me from coming and visiting her unless i get clean and stop seeing my boyfriend. She calls me fat, a druggie, junkie, smackhead ect…!! things like that don’t help me..!! She also says horrible things about my boyfriend too.

    I don’t want to be living with my dad, he isn’t there for me, it doesn’t feel like home, and i just feel so alone, Yet when i visit my mum i get arguments and judgement. I can’t win the only place im happy is with my boyfriend. I also have no other family i speak too apart from dad, mum, brother and they all think the same.

    Thing is i can get clean and im going too but i can’t leave my boyfriend i do love him and he has more or less stuck by me through everything and my family caused him alot of greif but he still wants to be with me.

    My mum is also moving quite a while away very soon so i have no choose if im moving with her and not seeing my boyfriend again or stay here and loose her.

    She has said i need to choose between him and her… i can’t, i want my family and my boyfriend.. i can’t choose, help???

He says that he’s doing just fine and that he’s enjoying the activities and the lectures included in the program. I think he’s in for a fast recovery. Before entering rehab, he had a rift with our dad. They had a fight about his addiction with marijuana. There were shouting and blaming all over the place that the only thing that my mom managed to do is cry. I was wondering if the rehab provides lectures or discussions about rebuilding relationships with family members. I’m wishing for a reconciliation between Jeff and dad.
