First Internet addiction center opens, will any of you be going?

01 May

Also if Internet addicts could afford about $377 a day to get help, I think they wouldn’t be Internet addicts and do something much better than World Of Warcraft with their lives.

Help with first visit to counsellor?

29 Apr

I have been feeling really down, finding it hard to smile or tolerate anyone. I have a lot of past issues that I think about a lot and I figure it’s time to talk to a professional about them because nothing is getting any better.

I am really nervous, I am going on wednesday and I don’t know what to say? I find it hard to talk about my addictions, feelings etc and find it hard to look people in the face.

Some tips on how to handle this would be much appreciated.

Should a person that plans on being a physical therapist become a physical therapist assistant first?

16 Apr

My son wants to go to a community college and become a Physical Therapist assistant first. I feel it is a waste of time because he still has to get a 4 year degree and the doctorate and this will prolong the process. He is rushing things because he wants to work in the area and become independent of his parents, get his own place and so on.

How can I see a therapist without a referral from my doctor first?

09 Apr

I would like to see a therapist because I’m fairly certain I am bipolar but my insurance requires a referral from my doctor to do this. Unfortunately, I do not have a regular doctor. What do I do?

What would be your first impression of someone if they told you they were in recovery for addiction?

24 Mar

I was recently at a drug rehab hospital for heroine addiction and I asked some visiting nursing students that were sitting in on a group session this question and they all sort of side stepped it. Do you think they were afraid to admit that the general public looks at us as lying, cheating, stealing, homeless scum of the earth and a plague on the medical world when we ask for help or take up valuable hospital space.

Do people think that way about addicts in general?

Do people really look down on us for having this horrible affliction?

I’m serious here, so please tell me your true feelings about those who are trying to get better.

When did you first become an internet addict?

15 Mar

The computer. The source of the internet. The source of chatting with people from all over the globe.

When we first got a computer, that is when it started. I always feel like I have to be on it. It is hard for me to stop using the internet. It’s bad enough I have the net on my cell phone. (blackberry)

So tell me your tale. How did you become an addict?

I am going to my first eating disorder therapy session. What if I am not really sick? Am I just parranoid?

13 Mar

What if I go to my shrink and don’t have an eating disorder after all? Am I then a hypochondriac? I try to avoid eating and I get the urge to purge everything out of me though I don’t usually follow though.

What does it mean if someone close to me is reading the book “Love First” by Jeff and Debra Jay?

25 Feb

I don’t know much about this book and its subtitle is “A New Approach to Intervention in Alcoholism and Drug Addiction.” Would this mean that the person who reads it is struggling with drugs and alcohol or knows someone who is and wants to help?
I don’t know much about the book but its subtitle is “A New Approach to Intervention for Alcoholism and Drug Addiction.” Would thos mean that the person is struggling with drugs or alcohol or knows someone who is and wants to help? At first I thought it was something he just picked off the shelf but when I asked what he was reading, he got all edgy about it. I saw him reading stuff about it online and then today he bought the book. This couldn’t be just a “reading-just-for-fun” book.

The Narcotic Farm: The Rise and Fall of America’s First Prison for Drug Addicts

21 Jan

Product Description
From 1935 until 1975, just about every junkie busted for dope went to the Narcotic Farm. Equal parts federal prison, treatment center, farm, and research laboratory, the Farm was designed to rehabilitate addicts and help researchers discover a cure for drug addiction. Although it began as a bold and ambitious public works project, and became famous as a rehabilitation center frequented by great jazz musicians among others, the Farm was shut down forty years after it opened amid scandal over its drug-testing program, which involved experiments where inmates were being used as human guinea pigs and rewarded with heroin and cocaine for their efforts. Published to coincide with a documentary to be aired on PBS, The Narcotic Farm includes rare and unpublished photographs, film stills, newspaper and magazine clippings, government documents, as well as interviews, writings, and anecdotes from the prisoners, doctors, and guards that trace the Farm’s noble rise … More >>
