I have a friend wants to get help with a substance abuse problem that she has. She has 4 kids, 3 of which she has lost custody. She wants to attend meetings to get help. However, she is unsure if she should reveal that she has kids, for fear of someone telling social services and thus taking her other kid away. What kind of privacy act is in place for organizations such as NA and AA?

If I were to adopt a 3 month old baby who was addicted to what I assume was heroine, what can I expect? Would the drugs be out of her system by then and she could live a normal life growing up? Or would there always be problems? I need to get all the facts straight before I make a decision of course, so anything you could tell me would be greatly appreciated. She is still in the hospital right now, and it will probably be 3 months before we could start the process of adoption. What all should I expect? Serious answers only please.
I’m not sure it is heroin or something else or a combination. No one will tell me that yet.

My therapist has out of the blue “strongly suggested” that I do a substance abuse program alongside my anger course (it was for a fight incident. I’ve never been in trouble, but I do study behavioral medicine. So, I thought it best to do therapy). I can barely afford my therapy (no insurance), but my therapist said another therapist who happens to see my partner suggested I take these substance classes for 16 weeks…
Now, something stinks here…I’ve never been with any other therapist, my therapist even said the name of my partner’s therapist suggested it without even realizing that my partner sees him (my partner doesn’t drink; so, in therapy he’s said to me that he just isn’t comfortable with alcohol, not that he is uncomfortable with my drinking…so it’s nothing he’s told his therapist). See where I am going with this though? It’s really upsetting me, and it seems extremely unethical or unprofessional.
What the hell is my therapist’s problem?
By the way, I do NOT do drugs. I can’t do anything, drinking is extremely rare, due to my work and school testing as I work in a laboratory.

I am a permanent Resident of Canada. I had done my M.Sc. in Psychology and Diploma in Guidance and Counselling from India. I have worked as a Rehabilitation Psychologist and Special Education Teacher for 7 years in India and for last 2 years I have been working as a Special Education Teacher in USA. Now I want to land in Canada in june 2008, and want to work in my field like Child and Youth Counsellor, Addiction Counsellor, Family Counsellor or even Special Education Teacher. I am aware that I need to get evaluation of my Academic Qualifications and Work Experience in Canada and I may undergo some further training and work experience. But I don’t know from where to start and how to start. My another question is about financial aid and expenses on the trainings, could I be able to get full financial aid? Please, somebody help me out in this, I will be really helpful to you.
