I think talk therapy is better because at least you get to vent & also receive advice & feedback on how to improve your life. Pills can’t fix your life if you’re depressed about financial situation or family issues.

What kind of mental illness is the one that hillucinates, and what kind of therapist works with them?

The time has come when I should start wondering what job I want, and I’ve always found the mentally ill fascinating. So I really want to be a therapist for that, I just don’t know which kind of therapist works with that kind of mental illness.
Is the key to managing or defeating depression mental therapy and will power or psychological drugs?

I feel that depending on drugs is a double-edged sword for some people. While it improves and maintains the depression, it makes the individual develop a depency on the drug; remove the drug from the individual and their faced with not only their depression again, but now a drug addiction.
Yet, I feel that therapy is not as easy as popping pills, but it teaches the individual how to deal with their lives only by depending on one thing: themselves, and not medication.
Which do you feel is more effective for managing or curing depression: therapy or medication? Why?
I was reading the answers hoping to not find a defensive one, but I did.
Please keep in mind that my intent is to offend no one. I ask this out of pure curiosity. I do have my opinion but am 110% to be enlightened to believe otherwise. My intent is not judge those diagnosed and treated for depression.
Your opinions and experiences are much appreciated.

Ok first of all I was never attracted to older men and MARRIED guys.
I went through a horrible devestating trauma(emotionally more physically and don’t worry I did what I had to do, heal and counseling and legal stuff too so please don’t suggest it since I already did it).
Well after that I’d find myself attracted to married men no matter how old they were. So I’d avoid them like the plague for a month and the attraction would disappear.
Now what would this be??

How can your mental health get worse after you see a therapist?

I can’t figure this out. I go see this therapist and I don’t like her. But they won’t let me have another therapist unless I go before a long drawn out red tape process. But anyways, I call up to get another appointment and the soonest they can get me in is like a month from now. So I told the receptionist, “Somehow my mental health gets worse after I call or visit the mental health association.”

Cruel practices such as reparative therapy and electric shock treatment are practiced on patients without evidence to back up their safety and effectiveness. My husband says he is going to a therapist for his manic behavior (bi polar) Can he go back to being his normal self with just a therapist and no medication.

Excluding obvious things that don’t require a conversation to figure out such as if the patient says they hear voices in their head then of course they have schizophrenia, or if they say they are sad and down yeah ok they have depression, but what are the more subtle things if any a therapist observes? (and I know both of the above require more qualifications but I hope you know what I mean). thanks.
