Opiate withdrawl and childbirth…can addiction pass onto child without drug in system at time of fornication?

02 Sep

Okay read this carefully and think of the situation… If a man is a few weeks into opiate with drawl, to the point where the drug is out of his system, yet his brain is STILL not producing enough of it’s own endorphins, aka his brain hasn’t fully repaired it’s opiate receptors yet, and he got a woman pregnant who is completely clean of drugs, her brain functions normally as far as chemical balances and her opiate receptors and endorphins are at norm… would the baby take on the need for opiates? or be vulnerable to get addicted to them because of the lack of chemicals the fathers brain was producing?

The only reason I ask is because the man is FREE of drugs, none in his system… yet his brain lacked the ability to produce certain endorphins because of using… so would the child’s brain have the same problem? or does that only pass on if the person is currently using opiates, and assisting their brain so much with false endorphins and opiates that the child’s brain would crave for them as well?

Please someone educated, please give me a good response to this IF you really know what you’re talking about or have heard of something similar, because I know that addiction can pass onto kids (I’m one of them) from the person using during pregnancy (my mother). Yet this situation is kind of tricky, and I don’t want this to pass onto my child if she is carrying him/her… Thank You!

Why would my girlfriend go to detox? Seroquil or opiate addiction?

28 May

I think my girlfriend is lying to me. She told me that she has been trying to get off of Seroquil and has to go to the hospital for “detox” 5-7 days. My brother is a psychiatry resident and told me that withdrawal from seroquil does not require detox and a 5-7 day period is used for withdrawal from heroin or opiates. I suspect she is not telling me the truth and said that she was going to be violently ill and I couldn’t visit her. A 5-7 day stop in the hospital where you get violently ill sounds like withdrawal from methadone, not seroquil. What do you think?

Would a ex addict have a problem taking opiate based painkillers, would it set off a craving?

11 May

I am not an ex addict. I am asking from a nursing perspective. I was wondering if an ex alcoholic had cough mixture with an alcohol base, could it set off a binge due to thiq being released in the breain? or an ex heroin addict using painkillers for severe pain which contained codeine or morphine, would this set a person off using again? is it an excuse? is it only a few that slip this way?

Why would a doctor prescribe an opiate painkiller to a recovering addict?

27 Apr

I feel like I constantly hear about recovering addicts falling off the bandwagon (sometimes of many years) due to their doctors giving them painkillers or anti-anxiety meds to help with procedures and what not. Is this medical negligence or is there really a medical reason for this!?

How come methadone is used for drug addiction treatment when it’s also an opiate?

This just confuses me. Wouldn’t the patient be then addicted to methadone?

what happens when a former opiate addict needs pain medication?

01 Apr

lets say a person used to be an opiate addict i mean along the lines of vicodin and oxycontin etc.

and lets say he ends up injured or ends up needing surgey and is prescribed pain meds and is necessery.

what would an ex addict do if he could easily relapse that way?

What do you think about using methadone for opiate addiction?

16 Mar

It works wonderfully for my herion addiction and I don’t want to go off of it since I know I’d immediately start using again. So many people consider it a “heroin substitute”. However, I DO NOT get high on it and it is medically controlled so when taken correctly, there is little risk of an overdose. Not to mention all the awful things that go along with heroin addiction like the risk of contaminated needles, drugs laced with deadly substances, doing illegal things to get your “fix”, and the fact that you will eventually end up dead or in prison. The problem is that I still have problems with alcohol and cocaine and methadone DOESN’T help with those addictions. I want to get help for all my substance problems but almost all rehabs are VERY AGAINST Methadone. I don’t want to be on Methadone the rest of my life. I will eventually wean myself off (VERY SLOWLY) so that I don’t get sick (it is addictive like heroin). Any thoughts about this? Please be kind. This is rough!

Why is methadone used for addiction treatment when it happens to be an opiate just like heroin?

26 Feb

Wouldn’t people get addicted to methadone too? I know people started out believing that heroin is some kind of treatment for morphine addiction. What if methadone is the same way? I’m just really curious.

After opiate addiction, how soon should I expect to get a regular menstrual cycle?

24 Feb

I was recently addicted to opiates and have quit completely. I was using them for about a year and six months into my addiction I stopped having my menstral cycle. I have now been clean for over a month and have not had my menstral cycle start again. Has anyone had this addiciton or heard about it and have had it come back? Or is this a permanent thing that I have done to my body because of my drug addiction?

Easing Oxycodone And Opiate Withdrawals?

05 Feb

Hi All,
I have been compiling a guide (I am a recovering painkiller addict) of things that are helpful to someone who quit and is recovering. Can you add something besides- rest, food, yadda yadda so far I have? Most of the list below I have found to be useful through trial and error. I am not looking for therapy, and GOD answers. Im looking for a grunt’s guide for those who are going to quit at home.
1)Benzodiazapines (preferably Valium)
2)Requip (For restless leg)
3)Marijuanna (high quality)
4)Clonidine (but only help a very small amount)
5)Ambein (to sleep)
6)Ibprofen

Opiate Replacement Therapy Is Bunk, Methadone Is Heroin Anyway.

22 Nov

Methadone is a synthetic heroin and used as a maintenance drug for heroin addicts in treatment. I’m here to tell you that does not work and never will but I know what will.
