Oxycontin, could this addiction have been avoided?

It dates back to 2 years ago, when I had a car accident, I was given about 120mg of combination of oxycontin and percocet a day. Even though the accident was bad, I felt like I was on top of the world the day after the accident, I was ever so positive etc etc, didn’t know why.
2 months go by, and my prescription ended one night, the next morning I woke up, I felt like a total sack of shit, I was cold, trembling, and just wanted to melt dead on the spot. Turns out, the doctor was supposed to tell me to decrease dosage gradually.
I wish I was informed, because that day i felt like shit is the same day I realized how ‘good’ this drug is but I wonder if i was informed, would I have just passed the time without realizing such things.
I got over the addiction as I made full recovery, but got in touch with it again during the summer when one of my ‘brothers’ died, and once I realized how much of my mood depended on the drug, how down i’d feel and how much i ranted about stupid things on my ‘dry’ phase, I’ve called it quit for good. It’s only been a couple of weeks but it’s done.
Anyways, the question is, do you think I would have just lived without knowing the power of this drug if i had gradually decreased the dosage?
Does anyone know of a class action lawsuit for individuals against the Oxycontin manufacturers?

Several states have won their lawsuit. I’ve heard the next step will be for those of us that have paid a heavy price for being misled by the drug manufactuer of Oxycontin. Addiction, financial ruin, required detox, treatment and a lifetime committment to recovery.
Is rush limbaugh still a heroin addict. Or do republicans still think Oxycontin is not heroin?

My doc suscribed this pain medication for a herniated disk. But I’ve read a lot of horror stories about people getting addicted to this medication super fast, and I’m nervous about taking it.
