I am thinking about allowing a credit counseling service (Take Charge America) to consolidate all my unsecured credit. Will this help or hurt my credit rating once I complete the program in about 3.5 years?

My brother is going through a rough time in his life, has been cutting himself, drinking heavily (we all believe he is an alcoholic now), and has been drinking and driving regularily. He is on anti-depression medication, and just started to see a conselor, but it is very infrequent. I live over 2000 miles away. I want to know if there are any good services out there that aim to help family members deal with the stress and learn how to support him? My life is good, and so is that of my parents. My brother has had emotional problems since he was about 12. Nothing I can think of happened to him, and he says nothing has either. He always has been depressed and “lost” in life, but just recently started cutting and majorly drinking. Any advise would be helpful. He is 30 and lives with my parents now so they can keep an eye on him. He doesn’t do well when my mom isn’t there and fights with my dad from time to time. I am married and have a family of my own now. This is all very stressful, especially not being there. I really just need someone to talk to and offer advise. Thanks so much.
Thanks for the good advice. I really just need help with dealing with my feelings on it, and ways to support him. He won’t go to AA or any other alcoholics group. He would not get help until just now. He is 30, like my post says, so forcing him to go isn’t an option. My family has offered to go to family therapy with him, but he won’t. So, at this point, just someone to help me deal with this change is what I need. Thanks again.

Like excessive. We’re talking like multiple bottles of southern comfort a day. The parent hasn’t been to work because of this. And in and out of rehab for it?
Like, let’s say that there are arguments going on in the home without physical abuse.
Is drug rehab effective for a person with addiction? And what are the services offered by the center?

She had a baby last week and because of her addiction, child protective services has it held in the hospital. Is there any chance that any judge would let her live with her child (in a friend or relative’s house) prior to completing a rehab program and proving that she is clean and can take care of the child? does any have any experience with child protective services and the court system?
